The Little Disturbances of Man

The little disturbances of man show up in various ways. The Wall Street Journal will probably be sold for 5 billion dollars soon. Comfortable employment becomes uncomfortable overnight. After many years of certainty, uncertainty casts a shadow over the newsroom. Job cuts, editorial policy shifts, and loyalty devalued.

It is a familiar scenario in life. Someone taking over your life and your work when you have invested all of your energies in it along with loyalty and some pride.

Your little patch of life quakes, and cracks appear on the surface from the shock waves. What to do when a 'take over' occurs? Not much. Jump ship? Lay low? Rise to the challange? Yes,one or the other or something else.

But the wound remains open for a long time. The scar is your reminder of the folly of counting on anyone or anything.

You have yourself. We must be invested in our self-worth. Events are beyond our control and there is always the possibility of sudden reversals of fortune.

Humans are much bigger than their job descriptions
